Destiny 2: Year of Prophecy – What You Need to Know

📅 Two Expansions a Year? Bungie Switches It Up
Bungie is leaving behind the old seasonal model and going for two chunky expansions per year. This means fewer filler updates and more story-packed, loot-stuffed drops that actually feel meaningful.
Why it matters: Destiny 2's storytelling has never had this kind of consistent momentum. After years of drip-fed seasonal drops, this feels like a hard reset — mini-arcs, new gear grinds, and expansions that (hopefully) don’t feel like stretched-out seasonal filler.
🌌 Edge of Fate Kicks Things Off (July 15, 2025)
The first expansion in this new model is Edge of Fate. It drops us onto Kepler, a spooky, singularity-formed planetoid that has "space cult nonsense" written all over it. Expect weird physics, cryptic lore, and plenty of Nine weirdness.
And if you're wondering who the big bads are? The Nine seem to be taking center stage again — and it might just be their most hands-on appearance yet.
Kepler looks to be a full-on patrol zone — not just a set piece — and that has lore-heads buzzing.
🎨 Renegades Follows Up Later in the Year
Previously codenamed Behemoth, Renegades is the second Destiny 2 Year of Prophecy expansion coming in late 2025. Not much is confirmed yet, but Bungie's setting it up as the next evolution of the narrative arc that starts in Edge of Fate.
🗺️ Kepler: Your Next Playground
Kepler isn’t just another moon or reskin. Bungie describes it as a planetoid gifted by The Nine — and everything from its architecture to its weather systems seems built to mess with your head.
If the vibe is anything like The Shattered Throne or Presage, Kepler might be the creepiest zone we’ve seen yet.
🎁 The $275 Collector's Edition (Yes, Really)
Bungie’s pulling no punches with the Year of Prophecy Collector’s Edition:
- 🛡️ 1/8 Scale Guardian Statue (Warlock, Titan, Hunter)
- 📄 Manila Envelope with hidden lore drops
- 🏅 Metal Stranger Badge
- 🎟️ Exclusive in-game emblem: "Paradoxical Impression"
- 🎧 Digital soundtrack (Edge of Fate)
Price: $275
For comparison, previous Destiny collector’s sets ranged from $150–250. This one’s pushing it — but might hit for die-hard lore fiends and statue collectors.
Pre-orders open: May 9, 2025
Ships: July 15, 2025 (same day as Edge of Fate)
😏 Community Reactions: Hype Meets Skepticism
There’s a lot to be excited about here, but also plenty of side-eye:
- 💸 The $275 price tag? It's steep — especially with international shipping.
- 🌀 Players are cautiously optimistic about the new content cadence, but everyone’s asking: Will this actually feel fresh? Or just more reused assets with a fancier name?
🔗 Key Dates
- May 9, 2025 – Collector’s Edition pre-orders go live
- July 15, 2025 – Edge of Fate expansion launches + CE ships
- Late 2025 – Renegades Destiny expansion expected
🎤 Final Thoughts: Is This the Destiny 2 Comeback?
Year of Prophecy looks like the kind of shift Destiny 2's needed for a while. If Edge of Fate delivers on its setting, story, and loot — and Renegades keeps that energy going — this could be Bungie’s redemption arc in motion.
But $275 for a statue and lore drops? You better believe we'll be unboxing it just to see if it blinks.
