Godbreakers – Worth A Try? Power Stealing, Chaos & Potential

TL;DR: Godbreakers lets you steal enemy powers and unleash godlike chaos — but is it worth a try? We played the demo and break down what works, what needs time, and why we’re curious.

What Is Godbreakers?

Godbreakers is a fast-paced action roguelite where you (solo or with up to three friends) battle across surreal, shifting biomes. The hook is simple and sick: weaken enemies, absorb their abilities mid-fight, and fire back with a devastating “Godbreak.”

  • Developer: To The Sky
  • Publisher: Thunderful Publishing
  • Modes: Singleplayer or Online Co-op (1–4 players)
  • Release Date: October 23, 2025
  • Demo: Available during Steam Next Fest

First Impressions & Combat Feel

The first thing that hit us was the look — stylish, readable effects and punchy presentation. Once the fights start, the vibe is chaotic, but fun. Stealing powers is easy when you’ve got space, but in the middle of a messy arena you either commit to the steal or get smacked — that risk adds hype to every encounter.

Our biggest early friction point was the camera. In bigger fights it can feel like you’re fighting the camera as much as the enemies. When the flow clicks, aggressive play is rewarded and chaining attacks/cancels feels great — but camera polish would elevate the whole system.

Solo vs. Co-op

We played the demo solo and it felt balanced once the rhythm set in. That said, the design clearly wants co-op chaos — power-steal synergies and team coordination seem primed to shine with a full squad.

Biomes & Boss Fights

Structurally, levels lean on a familiar loop — corridor into arena — but each biome looks and feels distinct enough to keep runs fresh. Bosses are creative and often hectic: not always challenging because of deep mechanics, but because of the volume of threats on screen while you manage the boss.

We also noticed performance dips the longer we played, especially with lots of enemies in boss arenas. Not a dealbreaker, but something we hope gets tightened up before launch.

Rough Edges (Demo)

  • Camera: The biggest issue during crowded fights; polish here would pay huge dividends.
  • Performance: Dips during extended sessions and heavy boss waves.
  • Modifiers: We wanted to see even wilder ability modifiers; hopefully the full game delivers.

Our first run was overwhelming in a bad way — but once we adapted, it became overwhelming in the best way. That arc is promising.

So… Is It Worth A Try?

Yes — with caveats. The power-steal mechanic is a standout and the foundation is solid. If camera tuning and performance optimizations land, Godbreakers could be a sleeper hit in the co-op roguelite space. We’re not fully sold yet… but we’re definitely curious.

Play the demo on Steam and tell us what you think.
